Vital Pulp Therapy

Vital pulp therapy (VPT) encompasses a variety of dental procedures focused on maintaining the health and function of the tooth’s pulp after it has been affected by decay, trauma, or restorative treatment. Instead of removing the pulp entirely, these approaches aim to preserve the living tissue whenever possible.

Common VPT procedures include pulp capping and pulpotomy. In younger patients—particularly when teeth are still developing and have open root tips—these treatments can also support continued root formation. This process, known as apexogenesis, allows the tooth to mature and strengthen over time.
